Contractor Insurance You Can Trust

How Soon Can I Get Workers Comp Coverage?

Workers comp coverage can be bound same day in most cases — here’s what you need to have ready to make it happen.

  • Same-day binding is available for most standard-risk contractors
  • High-risk trades and complex risks may require 24-48 hours for underwriting
  • Certificate of insurance issued immediately upon binding
  • We process all paperwork — you focus on getting to work

What You Need to Get Covered Same Day

To bind workers comp coverage quickly, have the following ready: your business name, address, and entity type; your FEIN; the nature of your work (trade and job description); estimated annual payroll by employee category; and a list of any claims in the past 5 years.

For ghost policies, the information needed is even simpler — your name, address, trade, state of operations, and entity type are typically sufficient to get a quote and bind within the hour.

If you’ve had prior claims, your agent will request a loss run — a report from your prior carrier showing all claims in the last 3-5 years. This can take 24 hours to obtain if you don’t already have it, which is the most common reason same-day binding doesn’t happen.

Emergency Coverage for a Job Starting Tomorrow

Call us before 3 PM EST and tell us you have a job starting tomorrow. For most standard-risk contractors — electricians, plumbers, painters, drywall, landscaping, HVAC — we can bind coverage and issue a certificate before end of business.

For roofing and other high-risk trades, same-day binding depends on whether the carrier’s underwriting desk can review the submission in time. We prioritize urgent submissions and have carrier relationships that allow us to expedite.

If the carrier cannot bind same day, we can often issue a binder — a temporary evidence of coverage — while the formal policy documents are being processed. A binder is a legitimate coverage document that satisfies certificate requirements.
